Today, Mrs Collins and Dug Woodcock led an assembly to launch our Great Potato-growing Competition. This competition has been funded by money left to YAGA by Shirley Sparrow, who was a keen gardener and member of the Yealmpton Allotment and Gardeners Association for many years.
Children from each class planted seed potatoes in large black pots. We are going to look after our potato plants in the central courtyard in school. In September, when we return to school after the summer holiday, we will harvest our potatoes, sorting, counting, weighing and measuring our potatoes. There will be prizes for the class growing the most potatoes, the heaviest crop of potatoes and the largest potato. These will then be displayed at the Annual Yealmpton Garden Show in the Community Centre.
Good luck everyone!
